Who Coined the Phrase?

MargaretWolfeHungerford “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.”

This often quoted sentiment has been expressed throughout the ages, including Biblical times, but the modern version, as we know it, is most often credited to Margaret Wolfe Hungerford (from her 1878 book, “Molly Bawn”).

But this is not a blog about historical figures from times before. It’s about finding beauty where most people find discomfitting homliness or physical unattractiveness. In other words, “never judge a book by its cover”…or as Mama always said, “Pretty is as pretty does.”

Looking beneath the surface usually ends in the discovery of something awesome, IF you will but open your mind and your heart!
